Chelsea Roof Deck

This six-story garment district building was constructed in 1905 and converted to loft-style cooperative apartments in the 1980’s. Katz Architecture was asked to address multiple roof leaks and structural deficiencies, and to design a rooftop space that could serve as a welcoming, enjoyable amenity for residents.

The scope of work was extensive and included roof replacement, structural repair to deteriorated roof beams, new flashing and drainage components, rebuilding of parapets and bulkheads, skylight replacement, brick replacement, and refacing of existing bulkheads. The new rooftop deck now serves as a beautiful gathering spot for the Co-op's residents, offering expansive views of the city skyline.
