Carhartt WIP Los Angeles
Carhartt Work In Progress was established in 1989 and now operates over 80 stores worldwide. This marks their second location in the US, following the flagship store we completed for them in NYC. As with the first shop, the design draws inspiration from the site's existing conditions and features. Here, a partially deteriorated mosaic floor and a series of structural earthquake reinforcing beams informed the store's layout. Working closely with Carhartt designer Andrea Caputo, contrasting finishes were selected to juxtapose rough and luxurious materials. Raw concrete floors, polished walnut, marble, fiberglass, and reinforced corrugated concrete panels create a backdrop to showcase the merchandise. The exterior storefront was opened up to the street with an expansive display window and inviting glass doors.
